Chicago's River At Work and At Play - Paperback Book
Chicago's River At Work and At Play by local author Neal Samors and Steven Dahlman, is a unique look at the Chicago River yesterday, today and tomorrow. The book includes interviews with key individuals who are intimately aware of the history of the river as well as the several contemporary and future issues facing the city's waterway system. In 192 pages, with 140 spectacular color and black and white photographs, the reader will be able to have a broader understanding of the river and what challenges it faces in the future.
The key elements of this book include a Preface by former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, a Foreward by Lynn Osmond, President and CEO, Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), and an introduction by Gary Johnson, President, Chicago History Museum. In addition to those essays and a photographic history of the river, readers will be given a unique opportunity to "go" on the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise aboard Chicago's First Lady, as presented by two experienced Chicago Architecture Foundation docents, and accompanied by numerous outstanding photographs of many of the buildings seen on the tour. Then, one will learn, in detail, the issues challenging the future of the river from invasive species, such as Asian carp, to whether or to the river should be re-reversed. And, finally, a section of the book is dedicated to the plans that have been developed and which are being implemented to continue building a beautiful Riverwalk for residents of and visitors to Chicago.
